Description
It goes without saying then that an unprepared man, alone and without help, stands no chance to survive here.
And yet.
Appearing in a new world without warning, Lamb must search for power and meaning both. He will join with stoic and vengeful Vera, wise and mysterious Jorge, and bookish and bitter Nathlan as they take justice from the cold, dead hands of their enemies and have a bloody good time while doing so.
It's a hard world, but that doesn't mean you have to be miserable, right?
This is a litRPG fantasy revenge tale, told from mostly a single POV. It is now complete at over 450k words.
Readers can expect:
- a soft litRPG system with classes and attributes points, based on skills accumulated over time
- visceral and realistic combat without damage numbers or overly complex stats to get in the way
- an expansive world built slowly through epigraphs, interludes, and the exploration of the characters as they move within it
- steady and rewarding power growth

Well written story with wonderful world building, show don’t tell character growth, and a fairly non intrusive system in place. Likeable main character whose actions follow who he has been built up to be. Which can be an hard achievement. Excited to catch up to the present chapter! Well done so far author :)

I really enjoyed this and think the author did a great job with character development and world building. Yes there were somethings I wish had more clarity or exploration (eg the amnesia, the world tree, shadowy organizations, etc) but overall the story really flowed well and I just couldn’t help but root for the MC.

I feel obligated to make a quick & dirty review after how much fun I've had reading this. Great book, great world, great characters. The progression is balanced and the power system seems to have a deeper, more complex level. Can't wait to see more of that. Oh, and the author is a certified wordsmith. This is probably one of the best written pieces of fiction in this site.

One of the few and far between well-written stories on the site. The author really is quite brilliant. Give the story a shot and stick with it for a bit—I promise it’s rewarding.(Word count, Word count, Word count, Word count, Word count, Word count, word count, word count, word count, word count)

A wonderful addition to the Litrpg community, this story has some of the best characterization I've ever seen, the scenes transition beautifully, and the prose is evocative and thrilling.I strongly recommend it, at no point does this drag on, there are no breaks in the immersion, and the system elements are engaging without monopolizing the experience.

In the Shadow of the Mountainsis a LitRPG adventure with a very familiar Isekai premise that will be a comfort to readers of the genre. However, OCRAuthor blends some elements I haven't seen before to give it his own fresh take on what is a comfort genre for many on this platform.I would like to pause for a moment on the story's Prologue. The stream of conscious narrative from our MC's (Lamb's) eyes is an interesting choice and may seem odd to some readers, but I think was purposefully done in a way that adds a lot of depth to the story. We are all familiar with the Isekai premise and there is very little new takes that can be done at this point. What can be done however is taking the premise and handling its finer, story specific details with utmost intention. We begin in Wales. Wales is known widely as "the Enchanted Land." A lot of the Western tropes we see based in English folklore (be it Authurian myth or otherwise) uses the backdrop of the Welsh country due to the pagan roots. I find it so fitting that we begin in Wales as my mind is hearkened toThe Spoils of Annwfn(Arthur leading an expedition to the Welsh name for the Celtic Otherworld, in order to retrieve a magic cauldron) andSir Gawain and the Green Knight. So, as our hero dies and is brought back for a second chance at life in a fantastical world, we the readers are ushered in via the most subtly apt choice of setting. Now, into the advance review . . .STYLE: 5/5. The author's style is nice. He communicates the story clearly and provides enough detail when important. I don't mind the occasional purple prose (a la Rothfuss) and am more of an efficiency and clarity over anything else (Sanderson is actually a good example of this). So, I'm not one that's hard to please in this category. Most readers should find the style easy to handle (no difficulties getting into the story). I like the descriptions relating to the System, which don't detract from the story itself (a common problem in my experience). I part

Story was good, reads more like a published book. Characters feel real and never felt wrong even when they did stupid things. Dialogue was good but a bit repetitive. The stats weren't good but the skills are amazing. And the book had a great end even though I wanted some after stories.

A really good and balanced story with interesting persongallery and caracters that kind of grows on you. Good fighting scenes that did not last forever, exploring, exiting twists and even a little romance in the end. One of the better stories on this site. Does not hurt if the author writes a sequal.Enjoyed it till the last word.

Overall the story is great, grammar is not to bad, story and system are balanced and the actual chapters are wrote well. The down sides are, numbers don't always match, something I could over looks if the balance of them was not an important part of the how the world works. The common under estimating of the size and tuffness of boars, and water washing away smell, ( only works if you travel in the water for a long period of time then once out the drips actually make it easier to track). Then at the start most chapters have long introductions form a person or book that while helping the world building, have little to no relevance to the chapters they are attached to.The book is wrote, in the chapters I read so far, in a tell the audience rather then show. And the first life so far also has yet to be relevant for more then the staring base stats and liking to run and mountains. This could have been accomplished just as well if the MC was a native to the world or not, all skills and abilities are thing that could be done by anyone born to this world with a bit of effort. So why add it? What does it bring to story? If it was only one of the problems mentioned above, that's not a problem but added up they brake the flow of reading. If none of that bothers you as much as it does me, it's a great story and interesting to read.
